University at Carbondale will host the
Motorcycle Rider Program and the Experienced Riders Course at the Coles County Memorial
Airport from April through
October. For questions, please call 1-800-642-9589 or visit their Web site. Tentative dates are being scheduled
now. Classes fill up quickly, register early.

descend on MTO to calibrate their spray equipment and discuss safety issues.

Air Patrol (CAP) Johnson Flight Encampment - Now in its 42nd year. Promotes
aviation to young people by teaching them to fly gliders, balloons, and
powered aircraft. For more information, call the Airport Authority office at

- Dedicated to
promoting aviation to young people from across the United States by teaching them to
fly gliders. Now in its seventh year!

4 Air
Show 2008 - This
is the sixth year for the Coles County Airport Authority's annual Air Show. This years show
will feature aerobatic acts performed by Susan Dacy
in “Big Red”, The Sons of Legends Matt Younkin and
Kyle Franklin, and Pete Jacobs with “Angel 7”. The military aircraft will also be
back. This year we have scheduled a
Blackhawk helicopter, an Aero-Vodochody L-39 Jet, a
T-6 Texan, a North American P-51 Mustang, a Fouga Magister Jet and a Beech 18. There will also be a variety of antique
military trucks, jeeps and weapons along with aircraft static displays and
fly-bys. Military rein-actors will also be on site. Professional Air Show
Announcer Jim Faber will be back again this year. The gates will open at 11am.
A children’s area, Stepping Stones to Aviation will provide small pedal
aircraft and instruction on how to taxi and move about an airport. The cost
is $1 per child. Each child will receive a certificate upon completion. As
always, we offer free admission & parking. Food vendors will be on site. Central Illinois Air will sell helicopter rides and
three passengers may ride at one time. The airport will close to air traffic
at 9 pm. NO PETS or PERSONAL FIREWORKS ALLOWED!!
4 Coles County Fireworks Display - Come early to see the Air Show.
American Military aircraft, jeeps and weapons on display. Food vendors on
site. Free admission; handicapped parking available. Bring lawn
chairs/blankets. There will be a special night show performance by The Sons
of Legends before the fireworks. The fireworks show will begin directly after
the night performance. No personal fireworks allowed. No pets allowed.
Shuttles available from Mattoon and Charleston.
13-15 Wings
Program - Now in
its 18th year, this FAA Pilot Proficiency Award Program is designed to
encourage general aviation pilots to continue their training. Open to all
pilots with a private certification or higher with a current medical
certificate. For details, contact John Blohm of the

Luscombe Fly-In - The 10th annual fly-in features Luscombe aircraft, which were built from 1935 to 1960 and
were the first to feature all-metal construction. Register early to qualify
